'true' 5.1/7.1 headsets/headphones, with 6/8 drivers in total, will NEVER be good. Get a good stereo headphone (NOT Gaming headset), some cheap microphone, and a Soundcard for a virtual simulation (like Asus Xonar DGX with Dolbi Headphone). None of them, they are both pretty trashy, if you want a good sound quality, good build quality, and a good performance for competetive gaming (like directional hearing). I think it's going to be a few more years until a truly good quality 5.1/7.1 headset will come out that has uniform sound quality in all channels, and even longer before an 'audiophile' standard headset becomes available. True 7.1 has only about 5-10% better positional sound ability to simulated/software 7.1 sound through a stereo headset.īut stereo headset sounds about 50% better in sound quality and fluidity of sound movement. I've tried a logitech headset that does this, and found that it is overall a much more pleasurable experience, as the sound quality does not deteriorate as it moves behind you. The Plantronics only simulates 7.1, so I guess it has only 1 speaker per side.

Multiple driver headsets sound like poo because each speaker is tuned differently and the sound does not move around your head fluidly, but changes timbre in a really ugly way as it moves around your head. From my limited experience with headsets with multiple drivers, I would go with the Plantronics (out of those two.
